Did you ever want to take the entire Windows system volume and move it from one drive to another? Did you want to clone a Windows disk in an easy to do manner?

If you have, then you need to take a look at XXCLONE, an application that weighs in at close to 3MB. Actually, the download weighs even less than that. This is because you are not downloading the setup executable itself, you are downloading an archive that contains the setup executable. This archive weighs in at little over 1MB – so the download will complete in no time at all.

There are bits that you will like about this Pixelab-developed application, and bits that you will not like. Let’s start on an optimistic note, with the bits that you will like.

You will like the fact that you can use XXCLONE for as long as you want without having to pay a dime. You will like that it downloads and installs in a blink, and that it is quite simple to use. You will like that it clones a Windows volume and that you can boot the system from the clone volume. For example you can make a clone of your Windows volume and put it on an external hard drive. Should your internal hard drive fail, you can boot your system from the external had drive. You will like that you can go about your day while XXCLONE does its job (it runs in the background. You will like the additional features, like the tools to duplicate volume ID, repair non-bootable disks, and so on.

Now here is the thing you will not like: XXCLONE provides support only for 32-bit versions of Windows XP. I’ll be the first to admit that Windows XP is a very good operating system, but it is a bit outdated. There’s Vista and as of October 2009, Microsoft rolled out Windows 7. The Redmond-based software giant will soon pull support for XP and I don’t imagine many users willing to stick with it then. Keep in mind that XP was released way back in 2001.

Properly good tool to clone and backup your Windows volume – if you’re using Windows XP.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Runs in the background
  • Clone Windows
  • Backup functionality

Cons

  • Meant for Windows XP
